Bridgemont’s Intervention Program: A Therapeutic Alternative to Incarceration

At Bridgemont, we believe that some individuals charged with crimes would benefit more from comprehensive mental health treatment than traditional incarceration. Our intervention program is designed to address severe mental health issues, reduce recidivism, and create a safer, more efficient criminal justice system.

Program Goals

  • Reduce Costs and Recidivism: By addressing the root causes of criminal behavior, we help decrease the financial burden on the justice system and lower the likelihood of reoffending.
  • Support Law Enforcement: We assist law enforcement agencies in identifying, assessing, and navigating the criminal justice system for individuals better suited for therapeutic intervention.
  • Provide Wraparound Services: Upon release, we connect participants with the services they need to maintain stability and continue their recovery journey.

A Therapeutic Approach to Crime

This program is not a “get out of jail free” card. Instead, we focus on:
  • Identifying Genuine Mental Health Issues: Through rigorous assessments, we distinguish those with severe mental health illnesses who require treatment from those who do not.
  • Creating Room in the System: By diverting individuals who shouldn’t be in jail, we help optimize space for those who need to remain in custody.

How It Works

1. Identification and Assessment:

  • Referrals come from family members, public defenders, jail staff, and county attorneys.
  • We assess individuals based on their current situation and mental health needs.
  • Comprehensive treatment plans are developed to address specific diagnoses and circumstances.

2. Therapeutic Interventions:

  • Participants may be screened for Treatment Courts, including felony drug charge cases.
  • Eligible individuals may enter an 18-month program, involving Intensive Outpatient (IOP) treatment ranging from Level 1 to Level 5 care.

3. Collaboration with Justice Partners:

  • We work closely with treatment courts, jail staff, and county attorneys to ensure a seamless process from identification to treatment.

Outcomes That Matter

By integrating therapeutic approaches into the justice system, our program strives to:
  • Improve public safety through effective treatment.
  • Provide a second chance for individuals to rebuild their lives.
  • Foster a more humane and equitable justice system.
